Karla Oesch, Collections Manager for the Louisiana Division of Archaeology, will present the history of the El Nuevo Constante, a Spanish merchant ship that sank off the coast of Louisiana in 1766. The wrecked vessel was rediscovered in the early 1980s by a group of local shrimpers and identified with the help of archaeologists and historians. The presentation will focus on the history of the vessel, how it was excavated and identified, and what it can tell us about 18th century trade. Main Library, Room #102, Free event.
